Marco Ferrero and
Susan Frittelli, who founded Kalahari World
Wide in Europe, started their travel experience living
between South America, Africa and Europe in the early '70s. Susan
spent many years living with the tribes of Nigeria in West Africa.
Marco, meanwhile, was already planning trips to various parts of
Africa for different European tour operators.
As time
went by, they lived in Morocco, Kenya, Mali, Sudan and Ethiopia,
opening up these regions to the European public. During this period,
they came to know and love African life, customs and traditions.
Having come from a European background, and having spent so long in
Africa, they learned how to develop safaris for people who had never
traveled in Africa before. They accompanied safari groups throughout
Africa, learning what is required to make an African Safari Dream come
true.
The
company office was first founded in Europe to offer their clientele
the experience, understanding and competence which was previously very
rare or indeed not even available. As a logical and direct
consequence of the intense interest in Southern Africa, Susan and
Marco established Kalahari Namibia Tailor Made Tours in Windhoek, the
capital of Namibia.
Being involved in
tourism
since 1977, Susan and Marco have not only been organising trips for
the discerning traveler, they have also undertaken many long and
hazardous overland expeditions, provided logistical support for
Television documentary teams and have even provided the necessary
support for fashion "shoots" in some of the wildest parts of Africa!
Marco
and Susan still spend at least 9 months of every year in Africa.
Guides: All guides employed by the
company are well trained, experienced and can deal with any situation
which events in Africa may throw at them. They are always well
briefed and well prepared for the very individual safaris which the
company offers. They normally speak English, German and an African
language - this ensures that there are no communication problems with
the various peoples in our region. It can be arranged to have
Italian, French or Spanish speaking guides, but they are generally not
as experienced in dealing with local conditions. As a rule, we
recommend using a local guide. Most of them also have broad travel
experience in Europe as well as Africa.
Vehicles: Vehicles owned by the
company are suited to the terrain and road conditions and are always
serviced prior to any tour or safari. When vehicles are hired either
for self-drive tours or for company use, they are hired from a
reputable and reliable company and also conform to road and terrain
suitability.
International Offices: In 2004 Kalahari opened an
office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania as a base half way through
Africa in addition to the offices in Namibia and Italy.
